is why 90% of our American friends come to Canada. Moose Horn Lodge is well known for big tasty Walleyes. There are literally thousands of miles of shoreline in the surrounding lakes which will give you endless fishing possibilities.

Walleye fishing starts the third Saturday in May. The limit with a Sport License is 4 with. Only one Walleye can be over 18.1 inches. With a Conservation License, you are allowed 2 Walleye. These new limits are for all of Northern Ontario. The fish can be filleted but a strip of skin has to be left on the fillet for identification if you are crossing the border back into the States.

Equipment used should be light or ultra light rods with 10-pound test line. Lures should include 3/8 oz jigs, twister tails and Rapalas. Minnows and worms also work well. We recommend fishing early in the morning and then in the evening on some of our smaller lakes.

Possession of fish means live or cleaned. Possession means fish on your stringer, fish in your freezer, fish in your frying pan. Some people catch and clean 4 Walleyes and put them in the freezer to take home. Then they go back out and catch lunch. This is illegal. If you plan on eating three Walleyes for lunch every day, then you can only have one Walleye in the freezer and must wait until your last day to keep those extra three Walleyes. Many people have been confused on this issue. Go to Ministry of Natural Resources Fishing Regulations

We ask our guest not to keep Walleyes over 18 inches. Walleyes over 18 inches are generally female and only make up 15% of the population. They are needed to keep our Walleye population healthy. We want sports fishing not meat fishing at Moose Horn Lodge. If you catch a trophy, please measure, take a picture and then let the fish go.

Moose Horn Lodge sells minnows and worms. If you want fishing tackle, there are several bait stores in the village of Chapleau which is only a 10 minute drive from the lodge. We also have fish cleaning and freezing facilities. Click here to view our Photo Gallery
